Why we fast?

Stepping into 2026

As we begin this new year together, we are entering a season we’re calling “Make Room”. As your pastors, we are stepping into this season ourselves. Like many of you, we’ve felt the pull of busyness, noise, and responsibility. Ministry, family, work, and life can quietly crowd out the very presence that sustains us. This fast is not something we’re asking you to do without us. We’re making room in our own home, our own rhythms, and our own hearts right alongside you. This is not a fast about willpower, perfection, or proving anything to God. This is the season of return. We are returning our hearts, our attention, and our lives fully to the Lord. And God, in His grace, always meets us when we do.

Biblical fasting is the intentional laying down of food according to the scriptures, but sometimes media, habits, or distractions can definitely be added to the list so we can give focused attention to God. Fasting doesn’t earn God’s love or bring Him closer to us. It simply clears space so we can become more aware of His presence, His voice, and His work within us. We want to Make Room for the Holy Spirit to do a work in us. During this fast, choose what fits your health and your season of life. We suggest a Daniel-style fast (no sweets, no meats, no treats), maybe adding a media or social fast, or a combination of fasting from food and other distractions.

As part of this Make Room journey, we are also inviting you to take communion each day, whether on your own or with your family, Communion reminds us that our strength doesn’t come from what we consume or avoid, but from Christ Himself. When we take the bread and the cup, we remember:

  • Jesus’ body, given for us

  • Jesus’ blood, poured out for us

  • Our complete dependence on His grace

You don’t need a preacher present. You don’t need perfection. You only need a willing heart. As you take communion, you may pray simply: “Jesus, I make room for You again today. Be my strength, and my peace.”

One of our deepest prayers is that Faith and Family Church would be a healthy church, not just busy or growing, but healthy in our souls, our relationships, and our walk with God. A healthy church is made up of people who live honestly before God, who value stillness, repentance, rest, surrender, and who understand that being with Jesus matters as much as serving Him. As God works in us personally during this fast, we trust He will strengthen us together and shape us into healthier people.

Our prayer for you—and for us—is simple: that this would be a season where we fall in love with Jesus again, not because we’re striving, but because we’ve slowed down enough to notice Him.We are grateful to walk this journey with you. We are praying for your homes, your hearts, your health, and your intimacy with God.

With love and expectation,

*If you have medical concerns, please honor your health and seek guidance if needed. Remember, God is far more interested in your heart than your menu.

1 TIMOTHY 2:1-2
“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”

ROMANS 12:1
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service.”

MATTHEW 6:33
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.”

ISAIAH 58:6
“[Is] not this the fast that I have chosen to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?”
